The 2012 Home Garden Tour presented by the Smith County Master Gardener Association

Saturday: April 28, 2012 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM 

The Smith County Master Gardeners Association garden tour committee has selected five gardens to feature in the 2012 Home Garden Tour set for Saturday, April 28, 2012, 9am – 4 pm.  The gardens vary from a stunning backyard garden with a formal setting to an informal garden created around the natural surroundings. Each garden is sure to inspire with their different styles. Homeowners include: Wade & Julia Coody, 1624 Holly Creek Dr.; James Bozman, 3428 Ridge Bluff Circle; Dale Hipke, 4213 Fillbrook Lane; David & Mary Jane Stine, 15974 Big Oak Bay Rd.; and Nick & Carol Ann Sample, 14605 Northwest Rd.

In Holly Park subdivision is the home of Wade and Julia Coody. What began as a blank slate has turned into an interesting landscape with curving beds, hardscapes and layered dimensional planning. There is whimsical garden art tucked into the landscape as well as a multitude of azaleas, hydrangeas and blooming vines. 


 The Woods subdivision is the home of James Bozman.  This garden is old world traditional with a baroque touch. A secluded courtyard features a fountain and seating area. There are many azaleas, snowball shrubs, and roses. In the spring over 6500 tulip bulbs are planted and the front is full of seasonal color. 


Dale Hipke’s home features a stunning garden encompassing two lots. It was created by his late wife and features seating areas, fountains, and statuary. Seating areas and pathways lined with a varied assortments of plants wind throughout the garden. It spills over to the green belt behind the property with rose borders. 


 Lake Tyler East is the home of David and Mary Jane Stine. Their property is continually a progressive work. Find beautiful Deodar cedars lining the front along with crape myrtles. The landscape is informal and created for a lush peaceful shady setting. Among the features are a gazebo with a view of the lake, an outdoor kitchen, a greenhouse dubbed “The Plant Hospice”, and a small water garden. Each of these features was built by the Stines.

 


 

The Lake Tyler home of Nick and Carol Ann Sample is also a work constantly in progress. A large koi pond, garden house and vegetable garden over look the lake.  Azaleas, roses, Japanese maples, and many perennial plants bring joy to the homeowners in every season with something interesting blooming through the seasons.
